What Sustainable means depends on who you are. For the owners of water features, sustainable should mean how much will the water feature cost over its life. The design of a feature influences the longevity, serviceability, future renovations, and maintenance.

The most frequent, and often unplanned issue, is how much time and resources it will take to maintain the water feature. Each water feature is custom and lives in slightly different environments. Evaluating how each feature will age and be impacted by its environment helps guide some major choices during the design effort. For example, if a feature is built in a new park with small trees the impact of debris from the trees will increase as the trees grow. A design that provides easy and effective surface collection of the debris will reduce the maintenance time. All water feature concepts need to consider how to achieve the aesthetic intent while incorporating the systems required to keep the feature beautiful over its life.

GPSI is a specialist in water feature construction and consulting. Over the last three decades, GPSI has created many of the iconic fountains in Texas. We have evolved our capability to include deck level interactive and sequenced fountains, water feature renovation, aquatic playgrounds, water harvesting, and irrigation pump stations. Our experience has given us insight about the details necessary to make water features constructible and sustainable for many years.

McKinney Veterans Memorial is being constructed on a 1/2 acre site in Van Tuyl Plaza at Craig Ranch. It will feature a Wall of Honor with the inscribed names of those Collin County residents who have lost their lives in the defense of their country, while it recognizes and honors the service of all veterans. The fountain feature will be displayed within the Wall of Honor structure. GPSI (Greenscape Pump Services, Inc.) is very proud to have been selected as the water feature contractor for the project. The project will be complete and operational well in advance for the Sun Down Ceremony “Reading of Names” scheduled on 11/11/11 at 5:28 p.m.

The two fountains at the Texas A&M University-San Antonio project are classic design-build. GPSI (Greenscape Pump Services, Inc.) was able to take the concept sketches in the contract documents and turn them into a hard bid for the general contractor. Then, after coordinating with the landscape architect and the project engineer, GPSI produced a set of construction drawings including plumbing, electrical, structural and finishes.

Once the submittal process was complete, our team of craftsmen installed the plumbing and underground equipment vaults, concrete, specialized pool components, electrical, waterproofing and custom imported masonry.

Additionally, water for both features is supplied by the building’s water reclamation system which helps the project’s LEED certification status.

The Park itself will have a number of amenities along with the actual green space for the public to enjoy. GPSI (Greenscape Pump Services, Inc.) is excited to be a part of McCarthy’s (general contractor) team constructing this project. The water features will play an important role in the enjoyment of The Park and will bring an aesthetic value to the project. Project completion is slated for late 2012.

The Round Rock City Hall Paza had its grand opening celebration October 1st which included live entertainment, food, refreshments, vendors, a Plaza light show, and the unveiling of the new interactive water feature on the Plaza. GPSI (Greenscape Pump Services, Inc.) was selected as the fountain contractor to install the interactive feature, it became operational a week prior to the grand opening. The plaza will serve as a multiuse space that the city can use for any number of events, one of those being Movies in the Plaza.

The construction of the water feature is such that all fountain components are deck level so when not in operation the fountain space is void of any equipment and will allow for the entire fountain space to be utilized for virtually anything. All pumps, controls and treatment systems are located in a dedicated equipment space below the parking garage adjacent to the plaza.
